The story behind the print

I spent two weeks in El Paredón in Guatemala, shooting, and what I found fascinating about this beach and others in Central America was the black sand. I loved the way the salt and light beaded together, forming intricate textures. On this particular morning, the sun was already fairly high. As the surfer walked into the water, I played with how the light caught on the sand, creating a layered, beady effect. Subtle patterns emerged as light, water, and sand particles mixed. The surfer was framed in the background, and everything just lined itself up in the frame.
