The story behind the print

This photograph was taken from a slightly different angle around the same bay as my print, Blues of Bahía de Banderas. It features the same layers of mountains and water, yet the changing light transforms it into an entirely different scene.

Captured at sunrise, the changing light gradually reveals new layers within the mountains. As the sun grows brighter, different tones, textures, and subtle details begin to emerge. It’s something I love about photographing the same place over and over again. The landscape remains the same, but the light is constantly changing the way I experience it.

What draws me to this image is its soft pastel colour palette and the intricate layering throughout the scene. The closer you look, the more details begin to reveal themselves. New layers appear within the mountains, subtle highlights emerge along the strip of clouds, and delicate textures begin to form across the water. It’s this intricate layering of light, colour, and texture that continues to draw me back to this view.

It reminds me that landscapes don’t change nearly as much as the light does. Sometimes it’s the light that transforms a familiar place into something completely new.
