The story behind the print

It’s pretty amazing how, on the same morning, I captured three completely different images. They were all photographed at different moments and from slightly different angles, yet each one feels completely unique. This image was taken on the same morning as my prints Las Saladita Sunrises and Cielos Mexicanos.

What I love about this image is that, even though it was taken from the water, there’s actually no water in the frame. It still has that layered perspective I love, with the sky, the mountains, and the palm trees, but without the ocean. I think that’s what makes it so intriguing. The closer you look, the more little details you notice, the feather like palm leaves, the layers within the mountains, the beautiful yellows, oranges, pinks, and purples in the sky, and even the little Mexican houses tucked amongst the palms.

Years later, I returned and captured another beautiful collection of images that I haven’t released yet. Looking back, I realised that on this trip in 2019 I had something I didn’t always have later on in 2023. Time. Time to photograph, to experiment, to breathe, and to simply enjoy being there. That’s what these images Las Mañanas, Las Saladita Sunrises and Cielos Mexicanos hold for me.
