The story behind the print

I didn’t even realise I’d taken this photo until two years later. I was going through my Lightroom catalogue from Mexilogfest 2019 (one of the largest invitational Longboard competitions in the world), looking for a shot of a surfer, when I came across this one. To my pleasant surprise, it’s become one of my best-selling photography prints.
I was out shooting one of the early morning free surf session before the competition started. As I followed the surfers down the line with my camera, this view caught my eye: the mountains layered in mist, the soft pastels of the sunrise sky, the silhouettes of palm trees, and the reflection of the pastel colours on the surface of the ocean. It was such a beautiful moment to witness, early morning, crisp morning air, floating in the ocean, photographing some of the world’s best longboard surfers, and catching something quietly magical behind me.
