The story behind the print

After two weeks working in the surf at El Paredón, Guatemala, and navigating it's tricky conditions as it’s a pretty strong break break, I woke early to watch the sunrise from the shore. The waves were pumping, solid eight-foot plus. Only two surfers tried to paddle out and couldn’t make it past the sets. Most of the waves were closing out, but every now and then, one would open up and peel perfectly. The incredible thing about this beach is that the sun both rises and sets over the ocean because of the coastline’s angle. That morning, the colours blended, the sky, the sea, and the sand, and one perfect barrel opened up right before the sun came over the horizon. I normally shoot from the water but I took this image from behind the beach, a rare perspective for me, and one that I was able to capture perfectly the gradient of the sky reflecting on the water and the barrel perfectly breaking in the corner.
