The story behind the print

This image was taken in La Saladita, Guerrero, Mexico, just before a balmy spring day warmed up, with a cool breeze still in the air.

It brings back such vivid memories, not just of what is in this photograph, but of the trip that helped shape my style as a fine art ocean photographer. It was one of the first trips where I really leaned into playing with colour and light. It gave me the freedom to experiment creatively, surrounded by some of the world’s best surfers and the incredible beauty of the Mexican coastline. Photographing surfers of that calibre added a whole new layer to my work, pushing me to see and capture the ocean in new ways.

Although there aren’t any surfers featured in this image, the vibrant colours and tropical landscape became a defining part of my photography throughout the trip. The combination of light, colour, tropical landscapes, and the world’s best surfers shaped many of my fine art ocean photography prints and continues to influence my work today.
