The story behind the print

This photo was taken on one of my many early morning excursions to the beach while I was studying photography at night school at the Australian Centre of Photography. Each week, we were required to head out, capture a set of images, print them, and bring them to class to be critiqued.

It wasn’t long before my fellow classmates noticed my obsession with the ocean. On this particular morning at Bronte Beach, I was surrounded by people moving through their daily rituals from ocean dips along the shoreline, running the Bondi to Bronte track, swimming laps in the Bronte Ocean Pool, to paddling out for a surf.

The mist of the ocean spray mixed with the early morning light, painting the ever-so-familiar scene, yet one I had never stopped to capture.
