The story behind the print

On this particular day, the ocean was really flat. I was out photographing and had to make do with very few waves, so my attention shifted to the landscape around me. What really stood out was how all the blues blended into one. The mountains were blue, the sky was blue, and the water mirrored those same tones. It was almost as though someone had painted the entire landscape with a soft blue wash.

Because the water was so calm, it created the illusion that the ocean blended seamlessly into the mountains, which then dissolved into the sky. Looking back at this image reminds me that this landscape has always been there, yet it never looks the same twice. The time of day, the weather, the swell, and the people within the frame all influence how it appears through my viewfinder.

I’ve photographed this spot countless times, yet every visit reveals something new. This image stands out because of the way the blue tones flow effortlessly through each layer of the landscape, creating a quiet moment that feels almost painterly.

It reminds me that landscapes don’t change nearly as much as the light does. Sometimes it’s the light that transforms a familiar place into something completely new.
